Men’s Skin Care
Do men need skin care?
Yes. Just as you feed your body protein shakes and supplements and just as you put in the time at the gym or pounding the pavement, you need to give your skin some attention. Your skin takes a lot of abuse – the environment, sun and shaving – so treat it well.
Don’t worry, taking care of your skin isn’t complicated and it doesn’t have to take a lot of time. There are four steps: cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and exfoliating. Follow the four steps and you’ll see the results: a more youthful appearance, less blemishes, and healthier skin.
Step 1 – Cleansing - Water is Not Sufficient
Cleansing forms the basis of skin care (consider it as your warm-up), and don’t even think about skipping it. This step prepares your skin for what comes next. Cleanse in the morning and again before you go to bed; it removes all the oil and dirt from your face so your skin can breathe and eliminate toxins (did you know your skin did that?).
For a super-fresh clean sensation, try our:

Step 2 – Toning - It Just Feels Good
The second step is toning. Facial toners remove any dirt left behind and any residue left by the cleanser. Toning also tightens the pores and balances the pH of your skin. Believe it or not, your skin is delicate and happiest at a certain pH. Toning restores the pH balance to keep your skin healthy and happy. Try our Aloe and Chamomile with NaPCA Soothing Skin Toner. You can also splash it on as a refreshing aftershave to close pores and soothe skin.
For that clean, tight sensation, try our:
• Refining Vitamin A Glycolic Toner
• Refreshing Toner with Papaya and Soy
• For sensitive skin: Soothing Facial Toner
Step 3 – Moisturising - You’re Almost Done
The third step (we told you this was easy) is moisturizing. After cleansing and toning (every morning and every night), use a moisturizer. This is your chance to deliver vitamins and antioxidants, as well as hydration, to your skin. Antioxidants are essential for skin health. They protect the skin structures from free radicals, those highly reactive molecules that damage cells.
Make sure that your moisturizer contains sufficient concentrations of powerful antioxidants.
Also, choose a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type. If you have oily skin, choose a water-based moisturizer (a gel or a serum). You wouldn’t want to add extra oil to an already oily face. If you have dry skin, choose an intensive moisturizer.
We recommend our:
• For very dry skin: Severely Dry Skin Creme
• For oily skin: Refining Vitamin A and Green Tea creme
• For sensitive skin: Soothing Moisturising Creme
• For ageing skin: Age Defying Moisturiser
Step 4 – Exfoliating - Weekly Maintenance
The last step is exfoliating. Yes, it’s a big word and no, exfoliating is not just for women.
Exfoliating removes the dead skin cells that build-up on your face. Think of it as a light sanding with very fine sandpaper. It will get rid of the dull look and keep your pores unclogged allowing your skin to do its job (think – unclogged pores means fewer breakouts).
Exfoliate once a week for a full two minutes. Don’t scrub too hard. You aren’t actually sanding your face, and excessive force and pressure will cause irritation.
We recommend our:
• Microdermabrasion Scrub
Shaving – After Cleansing, Before Toning
Shaving is rough on the skin so focus on soothing the skin. First of all, avoid shaving products (both shaving crèmes or gels and aftershave products) that contain irritating ingredients such as alcohol, menthol, or camphor. Shaving is abrasive (you are rubbing a blade against your skin) and often leaves small abrasions and irritation (razor burn). Would you splash alcohol on an abrasion anywhere else on your body? So why splash alcohol on the abrasions on your face? It burns for a reason. Instead of irritants, choose products with soothing ingredients.
This should cut down on ingrown hairs as well. (Irritation causes swelling around the hair follicle. When the hair grows before the swelling goes down, the hair often cannot find its way out. Soothing the skin should soothe the swelling and thus decrease the quantity of ingrown hairs.)
For shaving try our:
• Soothing serum
• Refining Pore Serum
As an aftershave, try:
